On 11/17/09, the president issued an executive order establishing an interagency Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force, led by the Department of Justice, which will provide advice to the attorney general for the investigation and prosecution of cases of bank, mortgage, loan, and lending fraud; make recommendations to the attorney general for action to enhance cooperation among federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial authorities responsible for the investigation and prosecution of significant financial crimes and violations; and coordinate law enforcement operations with representatives of state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement. On 11/18/09, the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded a hearing to examine the nominations of Denny Chin, of New York, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Second Circuit; Rosanna Malouf Peterson, of Washington, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Washington; and William M. Conley, of Wisconsin, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin.
On 11/19/09, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a 12/3/09 meeting of the Occupational Information Development Advisory Panel via teleconference to discuss medical and vocational analysis of disability claims, and definitions, ratings, and capture of physical, mental, and cognitive demands of work and other occupational information critical to SSA disability programs.. On 11/19/09, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) announced a 12/9/09-12/10/09 meeting in Gaithersburg, MD, of the Technical Guidelines Development Committee to receive information from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and EAC regarding current standards development work, to hear a briefing on the EAC’s testing and certification process, to discuss the EAC’s Voting System Election Operations Assessment, and for other matters. On 11/19/09, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a request for public comment on two information collections related to Recovery Act reporting for the Native American Housing Block Grant Competitive Program, which provides funding to eligible Indian tribes or tribal organizations for the development of decent housing, environment, and economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons in Indian service areas. On 11/18/09, the House Committee on Science and Technology approved HR 4061, the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2009.
On 11/19/09, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Department of Homeland Security, announced a request for public comment on a proposed rulemaking which would establish the international trusted traveler program “Global Entry,” which allows CBP to expedite clearance of pre-approved, low-risk air travelers into the United States. CBP has been operating the Global Entry program as a pilot at several airports since 6/6/08, and now proposed to establish it as a permanent voluntary regulatory program. Comments are due 1/19/10. On 11/18/09, the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee approved draft legislation entitled the “Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act of 2009.”
On 11/19/09, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a request for public comment on amendments to the system of records entitled “Patient Medical Records – VA.” These amendments revise the categories of records in the system and routine uses of records maintained in the system, including categories of users and the purposes of uses, and policies and practices for storing, retrieving, accessing, retaining, and disposing of records in the system. Comments are due 12/21/09. If no public comment is received, the amended system will become effective 12/21/09. FR 60040
