On 7/28/09, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) announced the disposition of two petitions for rulemaking regarding the commission’s candidate debate regulations, specifically the establishment of objective criteria for inclusion in presidential and vice presidential debates, and the sponsorship of debate among candidates by news organizations. On 7/28/09, the FEC announced a 7/28/09-7/29/09 meeting in Washington, DC, to discuss matters concerning participation in civil actions or proceedings or arbitration, the website and Internet communications improvement initiative, and other issues. FR 37227.
On 7/28/09, the Department of Health and Human Services announced an online 8/14/09 meeting of the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2020 to address efforts to develop the nation’s health promotion and disease prevention objectives and strategies to improve the health status and reduce health risks for Americans by the year 2020. On 7/28/09, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced a request for public comment on a notice identifying all state and local fair housing agencies that enforce laws HUD has deemed substantially equivalent to the Fair Housing Act and that have subsequently been granted HUD funding. Public comment is requested on the state or local fair housing laws of the interim agencies, including the performance of agencies in enforcing such laws. Comments are due 8/27/09. FR 37237.

On 7/28/09, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security, announced a request for public comment on a new information collection, the InfoPass System, which allows an applicant or petitioner to schedule an interview appointment with USCIS through USCIS’ Internet website. On 7/28/09, the State Department announced a waiver of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act restriction on assistance to the Central Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. FR 37287.

On 7/23/09, the president issued a proclamation declaring 7/25/09 to be the 35 th Anniversary of the Legal Services Corporation, and calling upon legal professionals and the people of the United States to honor the contributions of this vital organization.

On 7/28/09, the Advisory Committee on Disability Compensation, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), announced a 8/10/09-8/11/09 meeting in Washington, DC, to receive briefings about studies on compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and other veteran benefits programs, and for other purposes. On 7/28/09, the VA announced a request for public comment on a new system of records entitled “Veterans Information Solution – VA,” which provides a consolidated view of information gathered from the Beneficiaries Identification and Record Locator Subsystem, the VA/Department of Defense Identity Repository, the Benefits Delivery Network, and the Rating Board Automation corporate database for determination of eligibility for veterans’ benefits.
