On 1/6/09, the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Policy Development, Department of Education (ED), announced a correction to a final rule, effective 1/8/09, regarding family educational rights and privacy. FR 400.

Immigration Law
On 12/31/08, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), announced a notice of information collection regarding the sworn statement of refugees applying for admission to the United States. Comments are due 1/30/09. FR 80420.
On 1/5/09, the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), Department of Justice, announced a correction to a final rule, effective 1/5/09, relating to the rules and procedures that govern the standards of representation and professional conduct for practitioners who appear before EOIR. FR 201.
On 1/6/09, ED announced an information collection request regarding immigration status confirmation of students. Comments are due 2/5/09. FR 436.
On 1/6/09, USCIS, DHS, announced a correction to an interim final rule, effective 1/12/09, regarding the adjustment of status to lawful permanent residence for aliens in T and U nonimmigrant status rule. FR 395.
International Law
Presidential Action
On 12/18/08, the president authorized financial assistance to meet unexpected urgent humanitarian needs related to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda under the Migration and Refugee Assistance Act. FR 80293.
On 1/2/09, the Agency for International Development announced a final rule, effective 2/2/09, regarding implementation of exemptions under the new system of records entitled the “Partner Vetting System” (PVS). The PVS would support the vetting of individuals and directors, officers or other principal employees of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who apply for USAID contracts, grants, cooperative agreements, or other funding and of NGOs who apply for registration with USAID as Private and Voluntary Organizations.FR 9.
Social Security
On 12/31/08, the Social Security Administration announced the rate for assessment on direct payment fees to representatives for 2009. FR 80506.
Substance Abuse  
On 1/5/09, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, announced a proposed information collection, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Comments are due 3/5/09. FR 307.
