Bills Introduced
S 3028 ( Reid, D-NV), to amend the National and Community Service Act of 1990 to promote community service among United States youth by connecting secondary school seniors to community service opportunities; to Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. S4282, remarks S4285, CR 5/15/08.
Committee Action  
On 5/15/08, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S 1738, to establish a Special Counsel for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction within the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, to improve the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, to increase resources for regional computer forensic labs, and to make other improvements to increase the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute predators.
On 5/15/08, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S 1515, to establish a domestic violence volunteer attorney network to represent domestic violence victims. If enacted, the legislation would allocate 16 million dollars in funding to the ABA’s Commission on Domestic Violence to solicit lawyers, train them, and organize them into a central network. On 5/25/07, then ABA Governmental Affairs Acting Director Denise A. Cardman sent a letter in support of the legislation.

Committee Action
On 5/15/08, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of G. Steven Agee, of Virginia, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit.
On 5/15/08, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved S. 2774, the Federal Judgeship Act of 2008, which directs the president to appoint additional circuit judges for the first, second, third, sixth, eighth, and ninth circuit courts of appeals and temporary judges for the ninth circuit courts of appeals; and appoint additional permanent and temporary district judges for districts in specified states.
