On 6/12/08, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the following nominations: Helene N. White and Raymond M. Kethledge , both of Michigan, each to be a United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit; and Stephen Joseph Murphy III , of Michigan, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will mark up S 2892, to promote the prosecution and enforcement of frauds against the United States by suspending the statute of limitations during times when Congress has authorized the use of military force. 6/19/08, Time TBA, 226 Dirksen.
On 6/13/08, the Bureau of Prisons, Department of Justice, issued a notice that the fee to cover the average cost of incarceration for federal inmates in fiscal year 2007 was $24,922 and the average annual cost to confine an inmate in a Community Corrections Center in fiscal year 2007 was $22,871. Elder Law
On 6/13/08, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issued a notice of proposed rulemaking to clarify that the SSA applies the preponderance of the evidence standard when making determinations and decisions at all levels of the administrative review processes. Comments are due 8/12/08. FR 33745.
Indian Law
The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on draft legislation that would address problems of law and order in Indian Country. 6/19/08, Time TBA, 562 Dirksen.

On 6/12/08, the Senate began consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of HR 6049, an energy and tax extenders bill that includes a one-year extension of Section 120 to provide tax-preferred status for qualified group legal services plans. A cloture vote is set for 6/16/08.
