    Criminal Law
On 6/3/08, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, issued a notice requesting public comment regarding the review of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) Cost Recovery Regulations, under the criteria contained in the Regulatory Flexibility Act (RFA).   Emergency Preparedness
 The Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response Subcommittee, House Homeland Security Committee, and the Housing and Community Opportunity Subcommittee, House Financial Services Committee, will hold a joint hearing titled “Examining the Roles and Responsibilities of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Responding to Affordable Housing Needs of Gulf Coast States Following Emergencies and Natural Disasters. 6/4/08, 10 am, 2128 Rayburn.

Floor Action
On 6/2/08, the Senate voted 74-14 to agree to the motion to close further debate on the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 3036, the Climate Security Act, which would direct the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to establish a program to decrease emissions of greenhouse gases.
Intellectual Property
 The United States Patent and Trademark Office is proposing to adjust certain patent fee amounts for fiscal year 2009 to reflect fluctuations in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The patent statute provides for the annual CPI adjustment of patent fees set by statute to recover the higher costs associated with doing business. Public comments must be submitted by 7/3/08.
