Disability Law

Bills Introduced

S 2559 ( Dodd, D-CT), to amend Title II of the Social Security Act to increase the level of earning under which no individual who is blind is determined to have demonstrated an ability to engage in substantial gainful activity for purposes of determining disability; to Finance. S329, CR 1/25/08.


The House Education and Labor Committee will hold a hearing on HR 3195, to restore the intent and protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. 1/29/08, 10 am, 2175 Rayburn.

Federal Government


The Information, Policy, Census and National Archives Subcommittee, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, will mark up HR 3548, to enhance citizen access to government information and services by establishing plain language as the standard style for government documents issued to the public. 1/29/08, 2 pm, 2154 Rayburn.

Legal Services Corporation

On 1/28/08, the Legal Service Corporation (LSC) announced it will eliminate the Hawai’i migrant service area, effective 4/1/08, because any eligible migrant population in Hawai'i can be more effectively and efficiently served through the Hawai'i basic field grant. Comments on the decision may be submitted to the LSC by 3/3/08. FR 4922.

Floor Action  

On 1/25/08, the Senate continued consideration of S 2248, to amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978.
