On 9/27/07, the Senate Judiciary Committee began consideration of S 2035, to maintain the free flow of information to the public by providing conditions for the federally compelled disclosure of information by certain persons connected with the news media. Criminal Justice

Floor Action

On 9/27/07, the Senate attached two amendments to HR 1585, the National Defense Authorization Act, which would provide federal assistance to states, local jurisdictions, and Indian tribes to prosecute hate crimes, as well as require a comprehensive study and support for criminal investigations and prosecutions by states and local law enforcement officials.

Floor Action

On 9/27/07, the Senate approved the House amendments to HR 976, which would revise Title XXI of the Social Security Act to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, clearing the measure for the president.

Housing and Homelessness

Notices  

On 9/28/07, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Housing Counseling program, posted a notice of funding availability as authorized by the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968. This final rule follows publication of a 12/23/04 proposed rule that adopted and augmented the Housing Counseling program requirements and takes into consideration the public comments that were received in response to the previous notice. On 9/27/07, the House passed HR 3121, to restore the financial solvency of the national flood insurance program and to provide for such programs to make available multiperil coverage for damage resulting from windstorms and floods.
