The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will mark up draft legislation regarding the Federal Housing Administration Modernization Act of 2007; HR 835, to reauthorize the programs of the Department of Housing and Urban Development for housing assistance for Native Hawaiians; and S 1518, to amend the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act to reauthorize the act. 9/19/07, 10 am, 538 Dirksen.
HR 3533 ( Engel, D-NY), to extend by one year the moratorium on implementation of a rule relating to the federal-state financial partnership under Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program and on finalization of a Medicaid rule regarding graduate medical education; to Energy and Commerce. On 9/17/07, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of Homeland Security, issued a notice of interim rule with request for public comment. This interim rule amends Department of Homeland Security regulations to establish the requirements and procedures for aliens seeking U nonimmigrant status. The U nonimmigrant classification is available to alien victims of certain criminal activity who assist government officials in investigating or prosecuting such criminal activity. The purpose of the U nonimmigrant classification is to strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute such crimes as domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking in persons, while offering protection to alien crime victims in keeping with the humanitarian interests of the United States.
