International Law


On 10/5/07, the Agency for International Development posted a notice of a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA) on 10/24/07, 9 am-3 pm. The ACVFA has created working groups corresponding to two objectives of the U.S. foreign assistance framework: humanitarian assistance and investing in people. The two working groups will present draft papers with recommendations and lessons learned. FR 56981.


On 10/4/07, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee concluded a hearing to examine the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. On 9/27/07, ABA President William H. Neukom submitted a statement for the record in support of the convention.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing titled “The Mexico City Police/Global Gag Rule: Its Impact on Family Planning and Reproductive Health.” 10/11/07, 10 am, 2172 Rayburn.

On 10/4/07, the Senate began consideration of HR 3093, making appropriations for the Department of Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies for the fiscal year ending 9/30/08. The bill would allocate $377 million for the Legal Services Corporation.
