Housing and Homelessness


On 10/1/07, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and

Research, Housing and Urban Development Department, issued a notice of final fair market rents for fiscal year 2008 for the Housing Choice Voucher Program and Moderate Rehabilitation Single Room Occupancy Program. FR 55940.

Presidential Action  

On 9/27/07, the president signed HR 2669 [P.L. 110-84], the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. On 9/27/07 ABA President William H. Neukom issued a statement commending congress and the president for their action.

Substance Abuse


On 8/1/07 the Drug Enforcement Administration, Department of Justice, issued a notice of proposed rule making concerning the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005 (CMEA): Fee for Self-Certification for Regulated Sellers of Scheduled Listed Chemical Products. As part of the Act’s implementation ``regulated sellers'' or persons and entities selling scheduled listed chemical products at retail locations are required to self-certify with DEA relative to certain requirements of the CMEA. Written comments must be postmarked, and electronic comments must be sent, on or before 11/30/07. FR 55712.

National Security


The Border, Maritime and Global Counterterrorism Subcommittee, House Homeland Security Committee, will hold a hearing titled “Homeland Security Beyond Our Borders: Examining the Status of Counterterrorism Coordination Overseas.” 10/4/07, 10 am, 311 Cannon.
