Affirmative Action: A Dialogue on Race, Gender, Equality and Law in America

Editor's Note: [Nine legal, social science, and humanities scholars and other educational leaders discuss a wide range of viewpoints on affirmative action in theory and practice. The conversation traverses the context and need for affirmative action, social and legal policy and practices, diversity and college admissions, and the confluence of race and gender in affirmative action. This is an edited version of a two-week online discussion among the group during February of 1998, moderated by the ABA Division for Public Education.]

[Supplementing the perspectives of the discussion group, the following examine the notion of merit in university admissions policy, affirmative action in the workplace, and the constitutional status of affirmative action.]
