Section members can receive materials for their individualized practice needs by joining any of our 26 committees ranging from Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Biotechnology Law, Cleantech and Climate Change to Electronic Discovery Digital Evidence. Committees offer opportunities to actively lead and contribute to special projects, but committee members also have the option to only receive informational benefits in exchange for no time commitment. If you are not presently a member of the committees most closely related to your practice, take a minute to join. It can be done online, at no charge. If you are already a committee member and would like to become more actively involved, send an e-mail to the committee chair. You will be warmly welcomed. All of the Section’s committees are listed and described at: www.abanet.org/scitech/committees/home.shtml, which links to each committee’s home page. Section committees reflect the signature SciTech branding as well as commitment to diversity. Section branding is also evidenced through member communications, such as The SciTech Lawyer. The website of which was recently revamped to make information more searchable to members. I encourage you to bookmark this helpful resource. The SciTech Lawyer reflects a diversity of substantive subject matter in addition to a diverse editorial board and group of authors. The Section has historically supported the academic journal Jurimetrics This journal will be available on line early in 2010. Diversity in membership, leadership and substance has long been a Section priority and goal. This year, we are delighted to co-sponsor the ABA Joint Exhibit at four national minority bar conventions. This annual $1,200 financial commitment is an excellent way to showcase our programs and services to diverse lawyers from across country. The Hispanic National Bar Association Conference was September 2-6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association Conference is November 18-22 in Boston; the National Native American Bar Association Conference is April 8-9 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and August 7-14 in New Orleans. Modest Section revenue enhancement makes that programming possible in additional to others, such as the free CLE teleconference, available to members at low or no cost. I encourage you to participate in the Section’s free CLE with ethics credit teleconference on February 23rd. |
