All rights reserved. | Section News computer forensic resolution has impact in north carolina The North Carolina legislature was about to rubber stamp a bill introduced in their Senate on behalf of the NC Private Protection Services Board that would have given the PPSB authority over digital forensics, including education, training, qualifications, etc. The attorney exception for licensing requirements only applied to attorneys in NC and therefore could have also impacted every attorney outside of NC trying to do e-discovery. Jody Westby, SciTech Privacy and Computer Crime Committee Chair, worked behind the scenes with North Carolina forensic professionals and the High Tech Crime Consortium to counter what seemed a shoo-in for the bill. At the North Carolina legislature hearing on April 16th, a Senator put in an amendment to strike all the language in the bill pertaining to digital forensics, citing the ABA Resolution as the reason and stating that based upon the Resolution it did not seem that the bill was the right way to go.
