FEATURELPM Continues Support of Upcoming ABA New Partner and In-House Counsel Conference
Last year, the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD) launched the association’s first conference dedicated to providing education and resources to those lawyers that have made partner or gone in-house during the last three years. The now-annual conference was a huge success, and the Law Practice Management Section was proud to provide both program and sponsorship assistance. With this year’s conference just around the corner (March 2-3, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), LPM is proud to once again be an integral part of the conference’s programming. “Last year’s conference was very well received by so many new partners and new in-house attorneys from firms and corporations around the country,” said Micah Buchdahl, past chair of the LPM section and a member of both the conference advisory and planning boards in each of the first two years since inception. “There are so many areas of law practice management that are critical to the success of those lawyers moving into these new leadership roles.” LPM officers and members are well represented among the faculty at this year’s conference. Chair Tom Mighell is presenting to the in-house counsel track on managing electronic discovery. Chair-Elect Joan Bullock is a panelist at the joint session entitled, “The Business Case for Diversity.” The new partner track program on ethical considerations in business development & marketing features three former LPM chairs—Buchdahl, Walter Karnstein and Andrea Hartley. A panel focusing on business development for new partners includes active LPM members Rachel Silverman and John Bowers. The rewards of partnership or transitioning to in-house counsel come with a host of new opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges. This conference is specifically designed to help prepare you for your new role and your future success. Structured over two days, the Conference provides learning and networking opportunities to help you: - Understand expectations and anticipate needs
- Handle internal firm/company dynamics, ethical issues and risks
- Develop and manage successful relationships
- Build or expand your referral network
- Engage with top national practitioners including General Counsel
