Congratulations to 2009 Award Winners

The Division congratulates the following recipients of its 2009 General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Awards:

Solo and Small Firm Lifetime Achievement Award
Presented to Seth Rosner of the Seth Rosner Law Office in Saratoga Springs, New York, this award recognizes exceptional achievement by solos and small firm practitioners who are widely accepted by their peers as having consistently achieved distinction and epitomizing the ideals of the legal profession.

Solo and Small Firm Project Award
Presented to the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Law Practice Management Division, headed by Amy J. Seefeld, senior staff counsel for public and legal services, this award is designed to recognize bar leaders and associations for their successful implementation of a project or program specifically targeted to solo and small firm lawyers.

Solo and Small Firm Trainer Award
Presented to Alan J. Klevan of Klevan and Klevan, LLP, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, this award recognize attorneys who have made significant contributions to educating lawyers or law students regarding the opportunities and challenges of a solo or small firm practice.

Solo Day: The How and Tao of Legal Entrepreneurship, Part I: How
Friday, July 31, 8:30 am–10:00 am
This two-track program will focus on “hard” and “soft” skills and issues affecting law firm formation and growth. Part I, “How,” will focus on fundamental business start-up issues and skills such as preparing business plans for the firm’s use or for lenders, principals of budgeting, cash flow projections, and other financial aspects necessary for planning and growth.

Keithe E. Nelson Memorial Military Law Luncheon
Friday, July 31, 12:00 pm–1:30 pm
This biannual luncheon, in honor of the late Keithe E. Nelson, Major General, USAF, a former Judge Advocate General of the Air Force, has become a forum for presentations by distinguished speakers on military law subjects. The event is sponsored by the Division’s Military Lawyers Committee. We welcome our fellow JAGC lawyers to show support and appreciation for the services that you provide, especially during these trying times.

Part II, “Tao,” will focus on the law firm as an entrepreneurial enterprise and will include discussions on entrepreneurship, leadership, core firm and personal values, and their importance in ensuring growth for the firm.

Historical Trial: The Insanity Trial of Mrs. Abraham Lincoln
Friday, July 31, 2:00 pm–5:00 pm
Only ten years after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, a Chicago court found his widow insane and committed her to a mental institution. Was she really insane or did her son, attorney Robert Todd Lincoln, conspire against her? Join forensic expert Professor James Starrs, psychologist Dr. Darlene Shelton, trial consultant David Weinberg, and trial lawyers Carlin Phillips and Shain Khoshbin as they retry this historic case before the Honorable George Leighton using modern technology and forensic science.
