Awards and Grants Pro Bono Publico Grants
The ABA Child Custody and Adoption Pro Bono Project will award directed grants supporting the delivery of legal services to children in custody cases. Pro bono programs, legal service programs, children's law centers, law-school clinics, court programs, and similar organizations are invited to apply. The focus for the 2007 grants is Lawyers and Law Schools Partnering to Serve Children.

Also sponsored by the ABA Child Custody and Adoption Pro Bono Project, this annual award honors an individual attorney or law firm that has represented or enhanced the representation of children in private custody cases.

Family Law Docket Law Education Institute
Attorneys from around the United States met in Snowmass, Colorado, from January 5-10, 2007, to participate in the 24th Annual LEI National CLE Conference. There were nine practice areas represented with approximately 500 participants. The Family Law group consisted of about 50 attorneys, learning on a variety of topics, including Impaired Clients, Stock Options, Bankruptcy, Relocation, Conflicts, and Ethics.
I had the pleasure of moderating the Family Law group over the five-day conference as I have done for a number of years. It is a real experience learning from judges, attorneys, accountants and other professionals in such a beautiful setting.
Mark your calendars for the first week of January 2008 to attend the 25th annual conference, and Bonnie (my wife and the real organizer) and I will see you there.

Call for Volunteers Family Law Lawyers Needed to Judge ABA Competition
Each year, approximately 100 U.S. and Canadian schools participate in the ABA Law Student Division Client Counseling Competition. The purpose of the competition is to promote greater knowledge and interest among law students in the preventive law and counseling functions of law practice, and to encourage students to develop interviewing, planning, and analytical skills in the lawyer-client relationship in the law office.
Family Law is the topic of the 2006-2007 Counseling Competition. In February 2007, 12 law schools across the country will host regional competitions. There should be a total of 48 judges per regional competition.
