ABA President Linda A. Klein offers this message in advance of Law Day, a day to celebrate the American justice system.
ANNOUNCER: MAY 1ST IS LAW DAY--A DAY TO CELEBRATE THE AMERICAN JUSTICE SYSTEM. LAW DAY WAS CONCEIVED BY THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION DURING THE COLD WAR… MASSIVE DISPLAYS OF COMMUNIST MILITARY POWER ON MAY DAY…AND TO DEMONSTRATE THAT TRUE STRENGTH COMES FROM THE RULE OF LAW – NOT TANKS AND TROOPS. THE ABA ASKED PRESIDENT EISENHOWER TO ISSUE THE FIRST LAW DAY PROCLAMATION BACK IN 1958. AND TODAY, IT’S COMMEMORATED WITH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ORGANIZED BY SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY GROUPS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS NATIONWIDE. LINDA KLEIN IS PRESIDENT OF THE ABA – THE NATION’S LARGEST LAWYER’S ORGANIZATION:
PRESIDENT KLEIN: “The law is absolutely vital to our democracy. Today, when it seems that we are a nation divided, there is one thing we can all agree on: treating every American equally under the rule of law. It’s what binds this nation together.”
