Sugary drink regulation: Government regulation is not the solution, says tort reform expert

By John Glynn

Walter Olson, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, Center for Constitutional Studies, says that government regulation on the portion size of sugary drinks is an intrusion on personal liberty. Legislation is not the best way to manage this public health concern, nor is it the only alternative, he says.

Olson was one of three panelists who spoke during the Feb. 6 panel, “They’ll Take My Big Gulp from My Cold, Dead Hands – Public Health, the Police Power and the Nanny State” at the 2014 ABA Midyear Meeting in Chicago.

The program was sponsored by the ABA Section of State and Local Government Law
