ABA event to focus on bankruptcy, space assets financing and aviation insurance

WASHINGTON, Nov. 27, 2013 — The American Bar Association Forum on Air and Space Law and the Commercial Finance Committee’s Subcommittee on Aircraft Financing (Business Law Section) will jointly present the 2013 Aviation Finance Conference, with a variety of panels featuring senior aviation legal finance experts discussing the American Airlines bankruptcy case, aviation finance and insurance.

Program highlights include: 

“American Airlines Bankruptcy” — Speakers will reflect on the recent proceeding in the American Airlines bankruptcy case.                                                                                              9:15 – 10:30 a.m. 

“The Rise of the International EETC” — Aviation legal finance experts will examine the increasing regulatory requirements on international airlines. Will cross-border EETCs (Enhanced Equipment Trust Certificates), bonds that are financed by aircraft lease rentals, work for international airlines?                                                                              10:45 a.m. – noon 

“Status of FAA War Risk Insurance and Other Insurance Issues” — This panel will explore the implications of the Federal Aviation Administration’s consideration to renew its war-risk insurance program for U.S. airlines.                                                                     1:45 – 3 p.m. 

“Space Assets Financial News” — What role does launch insurance, launch risk guarantees and in-orbit insurance play in recent satellite financing? This panel will assess the legal and structural issues that involve these types of transactions.
3:15 – 4:30 p.m.

“Export Control — What Should the Aviation Industry Know?” — This program will review export control laws and regulations and how they impact airlines, aviation-related companies and financial institutions.                                                                                           4:30 – 5:45 p.m.
