Statement of Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III, President, American Bar Association Re: Judge Richard F. Cebull

By Gabriel McIntosh

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 6, 2012 —The American Bar Association condemns all forms of racism.

The ABA supports the expeditious review of allegations related to Judge Richard F. Cebull, which the Judicial Council of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has opened under the Judicial Misconduct and Disability Act of 1980.  Our association has consistently supported such reviews and does not comment on allegations while they are being investigated.

Judges must be mindful of relevant laws governing their behavior, applicable rules of judicial conduct, and the importance of public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.  Judges are rightfully held to the highest standards.  Activities that fall below that standard do not simply tarnish the judge, but the judiciary as a whole.
