Statement of ABA President Laurel Bellows on 50th Anniversary of the ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division

By Daniel Buchanan

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 8, 2012 — Today marks five decades of service from the American Bar Association General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division.

As a proud member of the division, and managing principal of my own small firm, I have firsthand knowledge of the division’s support for small firm lawyers.  I have been privileged to work with the extraordinary lawyers whose commitment and willingness to support their peers account for the success of the entity.  Through their leadership, the ABA General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division has grown to become the third-largest association entity and a powerful voice for the “Main Street” lawyer.

Thousands of solo and small firm lawyers are the backbone of our profession. Their strong commitment to the division is essential to the ABA’s vitality and crucial to the business and professional development of small firms.
