“We want to empower law students, lawyers and really anyone to contribute to a better environment and to help our One Million Trees Project reach its goal by 2014,” said Alexandra Dapolito Dunn, chair of the ABA’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. “The Facebook ‘Likes’ for a Cause campaign is modern, easy and for a really great cause.”
Law students, legal professionals and all Facebook users are encouraged to “like” the ABA’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Facebook page during the promotion period. For each new person who “likes” the page, the section will donate 50 cents to one of its tree-planting partners, including the Alliance for Community Trees, the Arbor Day Foundation, TreeLink/TreeBank, American Forests, TreePeople and the Institute for Environmental Solutions.
The ABA’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources’ One Million Trees Project — led by the section’s Environmental Transactions and Brownfields Committee — calls on America’s lawyers to plant 1 million trees across the United States to raise awareness of their value to the environment.
Lawyers contribute by planting trees in their communities or by using the project’s dedicated website to purchase trees that will be planted by one of several project partners. Lawyers working with these partner organizations can designate the areas in which their trees are planted.
The Facebook “Likes” for a Cause campaign is part of an effort to plant trees that would help reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide and contribute to the overall health of communities, wildlife and aesthetics. Entry for the ABA’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Facebook “Likes” for a Cause campaign is free. To participate, visit the section’s Facebook page.
