Dr. King and his life’s work inspired our nation to rise to the fullest of our potential by fulfilling the promise laid out in the immortal declaration—that all men are created equal.
When Dr. King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 48 years ago, there was urgency in his message when he said, “Now is the time to make justice a reality.”
Today, his reflections on justice remain just as relevant, especially at a time when drastic cuts to court systems and legal aid budgets undermine justice for all.
Let us continue to make Dr. King’s dream a reality by keeping the doors to our courthouses open and by adequately funding legal services for those in need.
With nearly 400,000 members, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
