The award, which recognizes individuals or organizations that have distinguished themselves in environmental law and policy and have provided leadership in improving environmental protection and sustainable development, will be presented Aug. 11 at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
The NELMCC, a student-run nationally competitive program, engages law students in legal environmental issues and provides firsthand experience in environmental litigation. Students research and analyze current and challenging legal environmental issues, write persuasive arguments that advocate how the issues should be resolved, argue the issues orally and have their performances evaluated and critiqued by practicing attorneys.
The NELMCC has gathered law students from around the country every February at Pace University School of Law for more than 25 years. The competition attracts 200 students in teams from more than 72 law schools nationwide as well as Canada. It has grown over the years to become the largest U.S. interschool moot court competition of any kind, with the participation of about 4,500 law students.

With nearly 400,000 members, the American Bar Association is one of the largest voluntary professional membership organizations in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and works to build public understanding around the world of the importance of the rule of law.
