Law and the Courts is a comprehensive three volume publication that takes an in depth look at the court system.
Volume 1 focuses on the role of the courts and explains how courts fit into our system of separation of powers, with particular emphasis on the role of judges and the importance of judicial independence. The second edition, Volume 2 is devoted to court procedures and provides readers a look into a legal case from beginning to end. It covers how cases begin from pre-trial motions, hearings and settlement conferences, to the jury selection process, steps in a trial, and the final stages of a trial including the verdict and the appeals process. The concluding installment of the Law and the Courts series, Volume 3 looks at the role of juries. Grand juries and trial juries are profiled as well as the major issues facing the jury system today.
