The Jacksonville Bar Association’s Law Day 2014 Events

National Citizenship Day – April 5th, 2014

On April 5, 2014, over forty attorney volunteers, along with faculty and students from Florida Coastal School of Law assisted more than 100 members of our community in completing and submitting applications to become naturalized citizens. 

Naturalization Ceremony – April 24th, 2014

The Honorable Harvey E. Schlesinger will preside over this momentous ceremony where several members of our community will realize the dream of American citizenship.  The keynote speaker will be Tracie Davis, Deputy Supervisor of Elections from the Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office. The ceremony will include patriotic music and a taped presentation from President Obama.

Sixth Annual Rendezvous on the River Charity Fundraiser – April 24th, 2014

The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association will hold its sixth annual Rendezvous on the River charity fundraiser at Fionn MacCools at the Jacksonville Landing from 5:30-8:00.  All are welcome.  The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and raffle prizes.  Proceeds will benefit Dreams Come True of Jacksonville, which grants the wishes of terminally ill children in our community.

Law Day Luncheon – May 1st, 2014

The Lawyer of the Year Award and the Liberty Bell Award (bestowed upon a non-lawyer who has fostered a greater understanding and appreciation of our legal system) will be presented.  In addition, Justice Barbara Pariente will speak on the topic of “American Democracy and the Rule of Law:  Why Every Vote Matters”.

Elementary School Poster Contest

Please notice the posters hanging in the Duval County Courthouse created by students from S.P. Livingston and Windy Hill elementary schools.  The posters illustrate the students’ impressions of this year’s Law Day theme:  Realizing the Dream: Equality for All. 

Art Supplies and Toiletries Drive

Members of the JBA have distributed bins to several Jacksonville-area law firms to collect both art supplies (crayons, watercolors, modeling clay, markers, etc.) that will be donated to S.P. Livingston and Windy Hill elementary schools and toiletries (travel-size shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, etc.) that will be donated to Downtown Ecumenical Services.  Please place your donations in the bins before the end of April. 

Edwards & Ragatz 5th Annual Law Day in May Celebration – May 1, 2014

Edwards & Ragatz will hold its 4th Annual Law Day in May Celebration benefiting Jacksonville Area Legal Aid.  This year’s event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the veranda of the Everbank building on Riverside Avenue.  There is a suggested donation of $25.00.  There will be live music from Ron Rodriguez, cocktails, Bold City beer and plenty of food and fun.
