Guam Bar Association, Judiciary of Guam and District Court of Guam
The collaborative Law Day efforts of the Guam Bar Association (GBA), Judiciary of Guam and the District Court of Guam focused on the fundamental connection between our courts and our freedom. They sponsored a myriad of activities such as “Lawyers on the Air” where attorneys responded to inquiries from radio station callers, as well as a Law Fair held at the largest mall in Guam where the public learned about local and federal courts and area law enforcement agencies. A video emphasizing the importance of open and accessible courts was produced and run across Guam public television stations. The GBA, Judiciary and District Court also hosted several activities held annually for students which included the Law Day art and essay contests, court tours, a 5K run and a videoconference mock trial, where junior high school students performed a mock trial broadcast in real time for other middle school students in Guam who served as jurors for the trial. http://guambar.org

Nevada Supreme Court
Students from three Nevada high schools had a front row seat to “Law Day Live,” an educational Internet forum sponsored by the Nevada Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court case Larry D. Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court, which dealt with the fiscal struggles of Nevada’s courts to keep their doors open, was the focus of Law Day Live to use real life accounts to illustrate to students that courts must be available to protect their rights and even for them to have the opportunity to challenge authority. Prior to Law Day Live, students across Nevada learned about the Hiibel case from materials provided by REAL (Relevant Education About the Law). Participants in the actual Hiibel case were a part of the multi-school webcast and offered firsthand explanations about the case and its implications on court effectiveness. Students and individuals from around the nation asked questions via Twitter and Facebook and received answers in real time. Additionally the Nevada Supreme Court hosted traditional Law Day activities such as Lawyers in the Classroom at Nevada area middle and high schools, as well as poster and essay contests for students. http://lawday.nevadajudiciary.us

Dallas Bar Association
Through its Law Day programming, the Dallas Bar Association (DBA) impacted 8,639 elementary students (K-6) from 49 Independent School District (ISD) schools across Dallas. The DBA charged its attorneys to get involved with Law Day and help young students throughout the area understand the importance of our court systems. More than 60 attorneys participated in “Lawyers in the Classroom” throughout the month of May. The Law Day Mock Voire Dire Project, presented to over 100 Dallas high school students, allowed the youth to engage in court proceedings. The annual poster art, photography, and essay contests further connected students to the Law Day theme and enabled youths to express how they think courts impact their lives and what could happen if courts were not available to them. http://www.dallasbar.org/lawday
