Engaged, Not Enraged: Civility, Politics, and Civic Engagement

The Florida Law Related Education Association, Inc. hosted Engaged, Not Enraged: Civility, Politics and Civic Engagement on August 27, 2013 at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum.
The program was followed by a book signing, reception, and the opening night of Facing History and Ourselves’ Choosing to Participate exhibit.
Presenters and participants explored the significance of civility in our social and political interactions and examined avenues for effectively engaging in public life. The theme of the night as articulated by speaker, Nate Garvis, was that “It’s not about moving left or right. It’s about moving forward.”
Nate Garvis, founder and author of Naked Civics. Garvis is former Vice President of Government Affairs and Senior Public Affairs Officer for Target Corporation. Michael Allen, Associate Dean for Faculty Development & Strategic Initiatives, Professor of Law at Stetson University College of Law. He also serves as the Director of the Veterans Law Institute.
Following the program community members are invited to attend an opening reception for Choosing to Participate: The Power of Civic Engagement. The exhibit features 11 panels that explore the impact of the active participation that has shaped contemporary American society.
