Civility, Civic Action, & Youth Voices

Watch the archived webinar:

How can we amplify youth voices to provide platforms and opportunities for youth to weigh in on issues and to engage in civic action?

Civility, Civic Action and Youth Voices will explore the recently report, Black Millennials in America, from the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago. Cathy Cohen, professor and principal investigator for the Black Youth Project will share data on the role black millennials have played in participatory politics and their attitudes towards political and legal systems.

Cathy will be joined by Scott Warren, executive director of Generation Citizen, who will talk about Generation Citizen's newly released white paper, Educating for Democracy, on political and civic engagement among youth. Scott will discuss Generation Citizen's mission to provide youth with high impact civic education through local hubs that serve as incubators for action civics.  What does action civics look like? Case studies will be shared to show how some of Generation Citizen's students have addressed issues like affordable housing and the school to prison pipeline in their communities.
