Jeanne P. Gray Diversity Scholarship

In 2014 the ABA Board of Governors approved the creation of the Jeanne P. Gray Diversity Scholarship in memory of Jeanne and her over 30 years of dedication to the ABA and its Center for Professional Responsibility.  Each year, on a rotating basis, a national diverse bar association will be invited to select a recipient to become an honored member of the Center’s family and explore ways we might work more closely together with their host bar.  The National Native American Bar Association (NNABA) was invited to appoint the inaugural participant in the program and has selected Florida attorney Robert O. Saunooke.

Mr. Saunooke will join the Center at the 2015 National Conference on Professional Responsibility in Denver, CO. and participate in both Center Coordinating Council and Diversity Committee meetings to learn about Center initiatives and discuss ideas and initiatives to reach out to the diverse legal community.  He will also become a complimentary member of the Center to be able to explore the resources and benefits of our membership program.

Lawyering with Challenges: Disability & Empowerment

By Stuart Pixley

Overcoming a significant disability in a law career means negotiating environmental challenges every day, but social exclusion and ingrained attitudes can present more imposing career obstacles. Stuart Pixley, a Microsoft senior attorney and a disability rights advocate, reflects on a working life both fulfilling and taxing, and on his commitment to the cause of empowering other lawyers with disabilities through the broader diversity movement. Mr. Pixley is President of the National Association of Attorneys with Disabilities and is a Commissioner for the ABA Commission on Disability Rights.
