As a lawyer, it sometimes seems that everyone and everything is demanding your time and attention: job, family, friends, and personal life. In addition, when you are a lawyer of color, there is added pressure to be a visible and active part of your community as well. It is understandable, therefore that lawyers of color must exercise some selectivity in the activities they choose to pursue or support.
