The Standing Committee on Strategic Communications (“SCSC”), works with the Communications and Media Relations Division (“CMR”), to identify and craft public messages for significant issues and events of importance to the American Bar Association and lawyers with particular emphasis on issues identified by current and future presidents of the ABA. The goal is to be ahead of the news cycle and to anticipate issues that affect lawyers and the ABA, and on which the ABA and its leaders should be prepared to comment. SCSC also supports CMR by providing member input to CMR on public relations issues, entity relations, social media, and setting policies.
SCSC receives copies of CMR daily reports and briefings, and has periodic discussions of new issues and events worthy of developing public talking points and messages. SCSC members also review other legal publications and news sources to determine how the ABA may be affected by, or may impact, those issues.
