Thousands of youth leave foster care every year and many work hard to do the same things—finding a place to live, a job, going to school and managing their money. It is important that you have someone you can talk to that has shared your experience and can give you advise when you need it.

It is also important that legislators, judges, lawyers and other professionals who work with youth understand what your needs are when you are in and leave foster care. There are many organizations that are run and operated by youth that advocate for policy and law changes to ensure that your voice will be heard in the child welfare system and that laws and policies meet your needs. You can become involved in one of these organizations to meet other youth with similar experiences and to speak out for your rights!
