When is the CBLA?
The CBLA will begin at 4:00 pm on Thursday, June 26 and end at noon on Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN.

Who is eligible?
Members of the five sponsoring bar associations (see list at right) are eligible to apply.

Who should apply?
The program is intended for lawyer leaders with 5-15 years of practice experience who are up and coming leaders within their organizations. This may include officers or board members of affiliate organizations; committee or section chairs of the national organization, and; a recognized interest in bar leadership. Candidates also must be committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

I have less than five years of experience. Can I still apply?
Applicants with less than five years' experience may be considered by demonstrating their commitment to diversity and a familiarity with bar leadership responsibilities.

What are the selection criteria?

  • Bar leadership experience either at the national, affiliate, state or local bar level. This description anticipates that participants typically are serving in their first bar leadership roles and have not yet served on the governing board of the national association.
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering the mission and vision of the sponsoring bar association and to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
  • Demonstrated potential to rise to a level of executive leadership in the sponsoring bar association.

How do I apply?
Complete the online application, including the brief essay. Make sure to include your resume or CV. You also will be required to submit two letters of recommendation. These may be submitted with your application or separately.

When is the application deadline?
The deadline for completed applications has been extended to Monday, March 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

How are candidates selected?
Each sponsoring organization has a juried selection process and appoints a committee to review the applications and select the participants. Participants will be notified the week of April 15, 2014.

What are the costs of participating in the CBLA?
There is a registration fee of $100 for each confirmed participant. Participants also are responsible for their travel costs.

How large is the 2014 CBLA class?
Each sponsoring organization will receive an initial allocation of up to 15 places for its participants.
