Don't Lose Your Privileges of ABA Law Student Division Membership

To check your membership status or to bring your dues up to date, visit MyABA or contact the ABA Service Center at 800.285.2221 for assistance.

Licensed law professionals pay up to $400 a year for the valuable benefits of ABA membership. As a law student, your dues are substantially reduced at only $25 and if you enroll and pre-pay for all three years during your first year of law school, you have the option of paying only $60 for all three years of law school (only $20 per year). As an added bonus, once you are admitted to the bar, dues for your first year in the ABA Young Lawyers Division is waived. So that's four years of uninterrupted ABA membership for only $60.00.

ABA Annual Meeting
Law Student Division Activities
August 5-7, 2010 (San Francisco, CA)

Registration fees are $75 for ABA Law Student Division members and $100 for non-members. (The additional $25 fee for non-members will be used to enroll the registrant into the American Bar Association as a Law Student member.) Tell me more

Law students registered for the Annual Meeting may also take advantage of the many educational sessions offered during the ABA Annual Meeting. While lawyers must pay for CLE events, ABA Law Student Division members registered for the Annual Meeting receive an " All Access CLE Badge:" that allows complimentary admittance to educational events providing you with an opportunity to meet and interact with legal professionals from across the country and from an array of practice settings. Keep in mind that social events or those that include a meal function may require you to purchase a ticket.

You are invited to attend the fourth annual ABA Law Student Division Career Fair, which takes place on Friday, August 6 in San Francisco during the ABA Annual Meeting. The Career Fair is structured as a table-talk and resume submission event to provide law students an opportunity to interact with legal employers without the typical stress of formal, sit-down interviews. Law students can drop off their resumes and meet representatives from law firms of all sizes, local, state and federal government agencies, military JAG, and public interest groups to discuss summer and new associate positions, as well as internships and volunteer opportunities.

The Law Student Division’s Career Fair also features a Resume Review component, with a panel of lawyers and legal recruiters available to critique resumes and offer suggestions to maximize impact and improve effectiveness.

Law students must be registered for the ABA Annual Meeting to gain access to the Career Fair and Resume Review. There is no separate Career Fair registration, but only law students wearing official ABA Annual Meeting name badges will be admitted to the Career Fair. Tell me more

WWM will be five years old next April. The firm was founded by eight equity partners from Lord, Bissell & Brook’s Chicago Office with some terrific and some naive ideas about building a better law firm. The Future of Employment Discrimination Class Actions After the 9th Circuit's En Banc Decision in Dukes v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

On April 26, 2010, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in an en banc opinion, affirmed class certification of 500,000 to 1.5 million current and former employees of Wal-Mart who allege company-wide discrimination against women. Hear from an expert panel, which includes lawyers for the parties and a Supreme Court practitioner, who will discuss the opinion’s key holdings; describe the history of the litigation, including important discovery events and interlocutory rulings; provide tips for conducting discovery, using experts, and appellate strategy in complex employment discrimination litigation; and speculate about the prospects for Dukes at the Supreme Court.
