Thursday, October 16, 2008 – Embracing the Paper Free Practice

12:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. CST

The transition from paper-based to digital information is underway. Lawyers who adopt a "paper free office" to manage the volumes of information they handle can increase productivity, decrease costs, and improve the service they provide to clients. Much of the information lawyers deliver (briefs, pleadings, correspondence, opinion letters, forms, contracts) is already created electronically... only to be printed to the ancient media of paper. Even the information from clients and other outside sources received in hard copy can be converted to a digital format that is easier to store, search and retrieve information from than paper.

Panelists:
·     David L. Masters, Masters Law Firm
·     Nancy Duhon, Duhon Technology Solutions

Registration  is open to anyone.  Law Practice Management Section Members can participate for $85, ABA Members for $125 and Non-Members for $150. Each additional registrant using the same phone line will cost $60. Once registration is completed, participants will receive the dial-in number and code.

Dickinson Law Firm takes on the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge

With growing concerns about the impact of the legal profession on the environment, the ABA Law Practice Management Section is a co-sponsor of the ABA Section of Environment, Energy and Resources’ initiative to partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to challenge law firms to practice in an environmentally safe way.  In response to the challenge, Dickinson Law Firm has become the first law firm out of Des Moines, Iowa to accept the challenge and create the Green Business & Sustainability Law Group to meet the increasing needs of clients.  Helen Adams and Howard Hagen, LPM members and attorneys at Dickinson Law Firm, were fundamental advocates in the idea that providing ‘greener’ legal advice should not be limited to clients, but should be reflected in the entire firm’s operations.  To assist attorneys and employees to be more environmentally conscious, the firm created internal guidelines called the “The Dickinson Green Guide.”  Through their guide, Dickinson Law Firm hopes to increase awareness on sustainable operations beginning with their own.  For more information visit the  ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge.
