General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm Division has been selected by the ABA’s Commission on Mental and Physical Disability Law (CMPDL) as a member of its 2008 Goal IX Honor Roll. In 1999 the ABA House of Delegates voted to add lawyers with disabilities to its Goal IX—which deals with diversity initiatives within the ABA. Since 1999, the CMPDL has awarded Honor Roll Certificates to ABA entities that make a strong effort to include lawyers with disabilities in both entity leadership and activities. General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm Division’s efforts to include lawyers with disabilities in many section activities, has made General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm Division an example of how easily lawyers with disabilities can be included in ABA activities.
Mr. Keith B. McLennan, Chair, ABA General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division, will be presented with a certificate, by Alex J. Hurder, Chair, CMPDL, at their annual reception for lawyers with disabilities. The reception will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Mercury Rotunda, 3rd Floor, Hilton New York, as a part of the ABA’s 2008 Annual Meeting.
CMPDL’s Goal IX report illustrates, that ABA entities have, as a whole, been slow to include lawyers with disabilities. However, efforts like the ones being made by General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division serve as a shining example to other ABA entities regarding the value of including lawyers with disabilities in ABA activities.
