Jordan Yochim is the bar's new executive director |  | ABA Annual Meeting Reg Opens Registration has opened for the ABA's 2012 annual meeting, August 2-7 in Chicago. This year's meeting will include more than 200 CLE programs and a Battle of the Lawyer Bands. Early registration ends May 31.
Registration Opens for NCBP, NABE, and NCBF Annual Meetings Registration has also opened for the 2012 annual meetings of the National Association of Bar Executives (July 31-August 2); National Conference of Bar Presidents (August 2-4); and the National Conference of Bar Foundations (August 2-4). The meetings will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, in conjunction with the ABA's annual meeting.

Calling Executives of Small Bar Associations! Register now for the NABE Small Bar Conference, June 22-23, in Las Vegas, NV. The program is geared toward executives of bar associations with fewer than 1,500 members, budgets less than $300,000, and/or limited staff. The conference will feature sessions and networking opportunities to augment your support of your organization while enhancing your own professional development. Registration is $99 through May 16 and $125 from May 17-31.
ABA Approves California Law School The ABA has announced it has granted provisional approval of California's University of La Verne College of Law.
|  | DBS Releases Bar Association Membership Surveys The Division for Bar Services has released its 2011 State & Local Bar Membership, Administration, & Finance Survey, a beefed-up successor to its State and Local Bar Dues Survey. The survey, Bar Services' perennial reference on bar association dues and membership operations, now includes stats on bar staff, facilities, and policies, with data on nearly 200 state and local bars.
Two special versions can be ordered in the ABA Web Store: a slimmed-down edition focusing just on market averages, and an enhanced version with statistical analysis. A basic version of the data went out free to bars that completed the survey questionnaire.
Begin Planning for National Pro Bono Week The ABA is encouraging bars to begin planning for National Celebrate Pro Bono Week, October 21-27. The event, started in 2009, has been an effective tool for building pro bono participation and increasing access to justice for thousands of Americans, and advancing participating bars' own pro bono initiatives. ABA Plans New Diversity Resource, Seeks Bar Data The ABA is seeking bar association diversity data for a comprehensive new book on diversity in the legal profession. The Diversity Databook, scheduled to publish in fall 2012, will include statistics, reports, and other data.

ABA Offers Help with the Tough Questions A lawyer spends six hours on a cross country plane trip on behalf of client A. While on the plane, he spends four hours working on a matter for client B. Can he bill six hours to client A and four hours to client B?
Such questions are the specialty of ABA ETHICSearch, the ABA's free ethics advice service. The service, operated by the ABA's Center for Professional Responsibility, provides guidelines - such as ABA ethics rules, state and local bar association ethics opinions, case law, and law review articles - to help lawyers through ethical quandaries. ETHICSearch fields about 2,500 inquiries per year.

The award recognizes bar foundation initiatives that make a significant impact in their community on issues for which lawyers are uniquely positioned to lead. For more, click here.
Partnership Awards Deadline Extended It's not too late to submit nominations for the 2012 ABA Partnership Awards Program, recognizing diversity efforts of bar associations. The nomination deadline has been extended to May 7. Visit the awards' web site for the nomination form and to see past winners.
Nomination Period Open for Pipeline Diversity Award The ABA Council for Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Educational Pipeline is accepting nominations for the Fifth Annual Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Award. The award recognizes exemplary leadership in educational pipeline work by an individual or organization.
