ABA Petitions Bars to Promote Healthcare DirectiveThe ABA's Commission on Law and Aging is working with bar associations and other organizations to promote National Healthcare Decisions Day, April 16. The effort encourages people to execute an advance healthcare directive, which only 29% of Americans have. More than 100 organizations have joined the effort. Bars Dominate Law Day AwardsThe New York State, Houston, and Palm Beach County bar associations, along with Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago, have been announced as winners of the ABA's 2007 Outstanding Law Day Activity Awards. The organizations will be honored at the ABA's 2008 Midyear Meeting in Los Angeles.

Nomination Period Opens for Gov't Lawyer AwardsThe nomination period is open for the Jefferson Fordham Awards, which honor outstanding state and local government lawyers and law offices. The nomination deadline is March 7. The awards will be presented at the ABA's 2008 Annual Meeting in New York City. Nomination Period Opens for Professionalism AwardThe Standing Committee on Professionalism is accepting nominations for the E. Smythe Gambrell Awards, which recognize projects that enhance lawyer professionalism. Bar associations and other law-related organizations are eligible. Up to three winners will receive the $3,500 award, to be presented during the ABA's 2008 Annual Meeting in New York City.

Nomination Period Opens for Legal Services AwardThe ABA is accepting nominations for the 2008 Harrison Tweed Award, which recognizes bar association projects and programs that increase legal services access for the poor. The award will be presented in August at the ABA Annual Meeting in New York, for work done between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008.

Foreclosure Assistance Program Seeks FundingThe Institute for Foreclosure Legal Assistance (IFLA) is soliciting proposals from non-profit organizations to fund legal programs for homeowners facing foreclosure. The institute has posted a budget worksheet, sustainability planning worksheet, and application for interested organizations.
