Join the ABA Health Law Section for the Washington Healthcare Summit!

After a summer of contentious town halls, talk of government death panels and spontaneous outbursts by members of Congress during presidential speeches, the advent of fall brings an acceleration of the pace of healthcare reform. The American Bar Association Health Law Section presents the timely 2009 Washington Healthcare Summit on October 26-27.

Leading off the program is a Congressional roundtable featuring Mark D. Hayes, the Health Policy Director and Chief Health Council-Minority Staff from the Senate Finance Committee. This session will be followed by the keynote address by CNN's Paul Begala.

Highlights from the balance of the first day include a panel on Comparative Effectiveness Research with Carolyn Clancy, MD, the director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; A State Attorney General’s Perspective with Virginia Attorney General William C. Mims and New Hampshire Senior Assistant Attorney General Michael S. DeLucia; and an update on Critical HIT Challenges for the Health Care Industry with David Blumenthal, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The second day leads off with an exciting section on Legal Ethics and Public Statements in Government Proceedings with Kirk Ogrosky, Deputy Chief of the Fraud Section for the U.S. Department of Justice and the ever popular Bill Horton from Haskell Slaughter Young and Rediker, LLC. Next, the case for healthcare reform will be presented from the perspective of what the administration is planning and what the healthcare industry expects. The conference will end with an Enforcement and Compliance Roundtable focusing on the current enforcement efforts of federal agencies related to healthcare featuring Daniel Anderson and Kirk Ogrosky from the U.S. Department of Justice and Greg Demske from the Department of Health and Human Services.

Whether you are in-house counsel, in private practice or a government attorney, or just interested in health policy, the 2009 Washington Healthcare Summit is the one continuing legal education program you cannot afford to miss. As the future of American healthcare takes shape, it is essential that attorneys from all segments of the healthcare bar and other professionals serving healthcare organizations are up to date on the latest legislative and policy developments and the implementation of significant healthcare initiatives from HHS, CMS, IRS, DOJ, OIG and other key government agencies.
