Scholarship Fund

Sponsored by International Risk Management Institute, Inc.

Sponsored by International Risk Management Institute, Inc.

Since 1978, IRMI has helped risk and insurance professionals make wise decisions. They achieve their mission through the vast online IRMI library, continuing education, conferences, and webinars, plus a vibrant online community of dedicated risk and insurance professionals. IRMI is the most accurate and reliable resource available, maintaining the highest levels of integrity in all that they do and quickly responding to their customers' needs.

The Scholarship Fund was created in 1997, and is a partnership of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (“TIPS”) of the American Bar Association (“ABA”)  and International Risk Management Institute (IRMI) The fund is supported through royalties paid by IRMI to the Section from subscriptions to Insurance Case Finder, and Insurance Law Essentials, a comprehensive collection of analysis and summaries of the most important decisions in commercial lines cases handed down by the nation’s appellate courts.

The Fund is used to broaden the involvement of TIPS members who do not have the financial ability to participate in Section CLE programs or meetings.  The purpose of the Fund is to increase participation in Section activities and to promote diversity and inclusion of traditionally underrepresented groups, including but not limited to women, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ legal professionals, young lawyers, law students, plaintiffs’ lawyers, government attorneys, solo and small firm practitioners, staff and in-house counsel, and public interest attorneys.

Recipients are selected by the TIPS Scholarship Fund Board, comprised of 3-5 appointed Council members. Information submitted to the Board by applicants is considered confidential and is not released to other groups or individuals. Scholarship funds are limited.  TIPS regrets that not every applicant's request can be honored.

How Can the Fund Help Me?

The scholarship fund helps members in a variety of situations. For example, for a young lawyer who wants to attend a TIPS sponsored CLE program - the topics are right up their alley, the speakers are experts in  their field, the opportunity to learn a lot as well network to advance in their field is there - but the registration fee is too high for her and/or the cost of lodging and airfare is prohibitive . . . this fund is for them! For a solo attorney who would like to be active in the ABA and TIPS in particular, perhaps participate in the governance of its committees, help shape legislation, or plan or speak at one of the CLE programs, but he needs assistance to do so . . . this fund can help them!
