 From April 20 to 21, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE’s) Ministry of Justice and the College of Law of UAE University, organized its first workshop in the country, which addressed continuing legal education for members of the judicial authority.

The workshop, held in Abu Dhabi, had 42 participants, including members of the UAE’s judicial authority, and representatives of the UAE Institute of Training and Judicial Studies.

Valerie Amand, senior judge, and trainer and project organizer at the International Department of the French National School for the Judiciary (Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature), the Honorable Judge David Nuffer, U.S. magistrate judge for the District of Utah, Mira Gur-Arie, director of international judicial relations at the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, D.C.,  H.E. Dr. Jassim Aly Al Shamsi, dean of the Faculty of Law at UAE University, H.E. Counselor Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, chief of the Civil and Commercial Department of the Fujairah at UAE’s Federal and Trial Court, and Hussain Mohammed Al Jehazy, chief of the UAE Court of Appeals and advisor to the office of H.E. Dr. Dhahiri, minister of justice moderated the workshop. The presenters provided in-depth looks into U.S. and French methods of judicial training, including the use of new technology.
