Training Offers Skills-Building Opportunities to Qatari Lawyers

October 2012

In September, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) held the first session of its intensive skills training for Qatari lawyers. Thirty-five lawyers, each with three-to-five years of professional experience, have signed on to participate in the 20-hour program. The curriculum is divided into three sessions, with the first module focused on contract drafting. ABA ROLI Legal Specialist Dan Fitzgibbon covered the technicalities of drafting contracts, leading the trainees in examining business law practice issues, in crafting and negotiating contracts and in serving clients.

ABA ROLI, in partnership with the Qatar University College of Law, will hold subsequent sessions that explore alternative dispute resolution and client relations. Each of the trainings have been designed to help participants build the practical skills necessary to support their career advancement. ABA ROLI’s programs in Qatar are supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative.
