03.06.2007

The American Bar Association, in cooperation with the Oman Ministry of Justice and the Bahrain Ministry of Justice, sponsored a workshop on mediation skills on December 16-19 in Muscat, Oman.  Approximately 22 Omani judges attended the training.  These participants were invited by the Oman Ministry of Justice.  ABA-Bahrain Resident Advisor James MacPherson and Judge Khaled Ajaji from the Bahrain Ministry of Justice served as instructors for the event.

A new law requiring mediation in some cases in Oman recently took effect.  This workshop was designed to assist judges with their skills in the implementation of the new mediation laws.  The workshop provided both theoretical and practical skills training to the participants.  In addition to lectures, participants engaged in role playing exercises to practice their skills.
