Lebanese Clinical Education Program Keeps Growing

08.20.2007

The Human Rights Clinical Legal Education (CLE) project in Lebanon has continued to make steady progress in curriculum development, despite the somewhat uncertain security situation in the country. ABA Specialists John Burman and Melissa Waters have contributed to course development remotely and are assisting the Rule of Law Initiative and the partner institution, l’Institut Supérieur de la Sagesse pour l’Enseignement du Droit (ISSED), in outlining key topics to be covered in the Ethics and International Human Rights courses for students. The training of trainers (ToT) for law faculty at ISSED will be held prior to the beginning of the autumn term. Finally, the ABA Lebanon office is working to identify a local partner in Beirut to host legal students during the practical component of the CLE curriculum, where students will represent real clients and gain hands-on experience in the legal profession.
