The ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) and Jordan’s Yarmouk University Faculty of Law have launched the second semester of a three-credit public legal education clinic. Focused on employee rights under Jordanian employment law, the clinic and its students will educate trainees of the Vocational Training Cooperation in the city of Irbid. The clinic is modeled after a similar course held during the spring semester but has added activities in the northern part of the Kingdom, expanding its reach and assisting trainees in cities beyond Irbid. The 27 participating students will be trained by three Yarmouk University professors on legal issues and skills including public education presentation, client interviewing and legal ethics.
A committee of three professors from Yarmouk University will teach and supervise the clinic, which will include structured exercises developed by Yarmouk University professors, ABA ROLI staff and experts in clinical education. In June and July, a U.S.-based human rights clinical professor, assisted Yarmouk University professors in enhancing the newly established program and incorporating interactive methods to increase students’ practical skills.
