U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to speak at Anti-Corruption Symposium

ABA-Ukraine is pleased to announce that retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice and ABA/CEELI Board of Director member, Sandra Day O'Connor, has agreed to be the keynote speaker at its upcoming Anti-Corruption and Public Integrity Symposium scheduled for June 11, 2007, in Kyiv, Ukraine.   A series of high-level legislative gap analysis roundtables will be conducted prior to the Symposium on Ukraine's draft anti-corruption legislation and proposed Implementation Plan to evaluate how such legislation meets international standards and Ukraine's commitments to international instruments regarding corruption.  ABA-Ukraine will partner with the Council of Europe in providing international expertise for this analysis in coordination and cooperation with the Presidential Secretariat and Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.  The findings and recommendations from these roundtables will then be announced and discussed at the Symposium in June. 

Justice O'Connor will be in the region to launch the official opening of the CEELI Institute in Prague, Czech Republic that same week and has graciously agreed to extend her stay and lend her support to this important ABA initiative in Ukraine.  During her visit to Ukraine, Justice O'Connor will participate in various other discussions and meetings with Ukrainian government, USAID and U.S. Embassy officials in regards to judicial and criminal justice reform.
