Conference, Continuing Legal Education Focus on Enhancing Qatari Legal Profession

Continuing its support of Qatar’s bar association to provide professional development opportunities for lawyers, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) coordinated with Qatar University’s College of Law to host its second series of continuing legal education (CLE) this Fall. Young Tunisian Lawyers Trained in Law Practice Management

Between October 29 and November 2, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) and the Tunisian Young Lawyers Association (YLA) trained young Tunisian lawyers on law practice management. A continuation of ABA ROLI’s and YLA’s efforts to expand professional development opportunities for Tunisian lawyers, the three-day Tunis workshop was led by a seasoned U.S.-based lawyer. Training Participants Learn How to Identify and Combat Human Trafficking

In August, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) held a two-day anti-human trafficking training of trainers for four Azerbaijani regional community leaders—three men from Astara, Beylagan and Shaki, and a woman from Mingachevir. Civil society leaders in their respective communities, the participants learned how to create and effectively carry out an anti-human trafficking awareness training, how to reach different kinds of audiences and how to employ practical exercises for increased effectiveness in conducting trainings. Armenian Lawyers Credit Practical Training for Their Successes

Legal education in Armenia mostly focuses on theory, and lawyers rarely have post-graduation opportunities to acquire and enhance much-needed practical skills. As part of its rule of law programs spanning more than 17 years, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) has offered a trial-advocacy skills course to Armenian lawyers since 2009, affording lawyers an otherwise scarce opportunity to hone their lawyering skills. Gayane Sargsyan, Tamara Baghdasaryan and Robert Manveylan are some of the more than 250 lawyers who have since benefitted from the intensive 15-session course. Read more »»
